Motorsport, a unique laboratory in extreme and real-life conditions
Symbio, a frontrunner in hydrogen mobility, is actively involved in motorsport programs to demonstrate the performance and efficiency of its fuel cells. Our engagement in Motorsport competitions enables us to:
- Showcase the performance of our Fuel Cell Technology. Motorsport provides Symbio with an unparalleled platform for innovation. The competition serves as a real-life, extreme testing ground, allowing us to accelerate the development and maturity of our technologies. It is a full-scale test to demonstrate our hydrogen systems' robustness, efficiency, and reliability.
- Accelerate the Deployment of Fuel Cells for Zero-Emission Mobility. Motorsport accelerates the deployment of fuel cells for all mobility applications and proves the potential of this zero-emission technology in decarbonizing transportation.
Introduce fuel cell technology to a wide audience. Motor racing has a large audience, enabling us to present and promote our zero-emission technology to a diverse audience.
» MissionH24, getting the 24 Hours of Le Mans hydrogen-ready
“The 24 Heures du Mans is a laboratory for mobility for all. With hydrogen, it's a commitment to low-carbon mobility, for the future of the planet. Motor racing is racing for tomorrow.
Pierre Fillon, President of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest
Symbio: a longstanding Partner of MissionH24
The MissionH24 Program, founded in 2018 by H24Project and the Automobile Club de l'Ouest, aims to promote the use of hydrogen in motorsport. Symbio, a leader in hydrogen mobility, fully embraces this challenge, driven by the motivation to constantly push the limits of our technology on both the track and the road. MissionH24 aims to create a hydrogen category in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the FIA Endurance World Championship by 2028. Two prototypes equipped with Symbio fuel cell technology have been developed, highlighting the progress made in hydrogen technology.
This project has reached numerous milestones, symbolized by the H24's participation in the Michelin Le Mans Cup and its speed record of 290.8 km/h (180.6 mph) set at the 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit in 2022.
We are now opening chapter 3 with the recent unveiling of the new H24Evo car. This bold, racy-looking prototype utilizes the latest Symbio hydrogen fuel cell technology, along with a dedicated racing battery and powertrain. The H24Evo, which aims to match the performance of the fastest GT3s, is scheduled to start running in mid-2025, before entering competition a few months later.
Next Generation Symbio 300kW Technology
The all-new hydrogen fuel cell developed by Symbio, which will power the H24Evo, uses cutting-edge multi-stack technology. With a maximum net power of 300kW, it will deliver exceptional efficiency, representing a power density gain of over 50% compared to previous technologies. These characteristics are fully aligned with the vocation of a racing car: performance; but also perfectly aligned with the needs of our heavy-duty mobility customers.
» Extreme H, the first Hydrogen Championship
"A year of motorsport is equivalent to 10 years of R&D."
Ali Russell, Extreme E (soon-to-be Extreme H) Managing Director
Extreme H, a future FIA championship transitioning from the Extreme E series to hydrogen, will kick off its first full season in 2025 with Symbio as the official fuel cell supplier. This off-road championship features electric-hydrogen buggy-type vehicles navigating courses through dirt, sand, and rocks. Extreme H will be the world's first hydrogen racing series.
Symbio Embarks on a Unique Extreme H Championship Adventure
- A 75 kW Hydrogen Fuel Cell: Replacing the battery as the vehicle's primary power source.
- Green Hydrogen Powered: Utilizing green hydrogen produced from renewable resources.
- SPARKS Racing Technology Vehicles: All vehicles equipped with a 75kW Symbio fuel cell.
